Twilight was a bad movie

...and other thoughts.

I think Twilight might have benefited from a better writer, a different director, some new casting, and less extreme Edward hair. Mostly the characters seemed deprived of both personality and backstory, and the big romance was lacking chemistry. Spark. Romance. He glitters like jewelry for #*$%'s sake. How bad a writer or director do you have to be to make glittering not romantic? Even I like sparkly things.

I can't wait to turn this around at 'flix and get Slumdog Millionaire. Meanwhile, I'm holding on to a couple of season one Chuck DVDs because nothing else has caught my fancy. I used to turn my Netflix around in a single day. Anything longer seemed like a huge waste of money. Now...I don't want to quit the service because when I do latch onto something like Avatar or Chuck, I enjoy marathoning the DVDs; however, the lag between obsessions makes for many money-better-spent thoughts.

Speaking of money (remember, 2009 is the year of budget posts), I have finally topped off my buffer (it's a YNAB thing) and have decided to drop any leftover money into a fund to buy Allclad cookware. I killed the pan I used to boil pasta by leaving it unattended on the stove until all the water in it boiled away and the bottom of the pan melted off. Sadly, this is not atypical of my kitchen experiences. No more orzo and bleu chese salad until I replace it. I don't really know anything about cookware, but my Allclad saucepan is indestructible and resilient and has refused to burn many an unattended, overcooked dish. But the point isn't the cookware. The point is that, thanks to my budgeting software, I get to drop my digital spare change into a line for household items and watch it grow into a 9-piece cookware set. Shiny.

Seriously, the person who photographed that pan could have done a better job directing Twilight.
