So, I was sitting here at work when one of our PI's (principal investigator) stopped by to show a potential postdoc around the MRI suite (where I work). As she goes to introduce me, I immidiatley see that this is one of my former labmates from BU. Obviously I jumped up and gave him a hug - we worked together for about 3 years and it was great to think he might work here. Anyhow, when we explained to the PI how we knew each other, her jaw dropped - I don't think she ever thought it was possible that in one time in my life I worked in one of the most respected Neuroscience labs in the US. I think people don't realize that while I may be a lowly financial coordinator right now, I do it to pay for my graduate education. Now, granted, I'm in the midst of a career switch that is less glamorous than electrophysiology....but it's nice to see people realize that maybe I deserve a little more respect than they give me. Before I deflected from science, I was on my way into the same lives that they lead....one, coincidentally, that I don't envy.
