December really is right around the corner. Wild. Thankfully, Thanksgiving is a few days away. I need the break. As of late, work has been a bit tiresome and monotonous. I remember sitting in our department Friday, two periods away from the end of the day, and just spacing out. Talking to Joe and Jackie. I was spent.
So Friday night, all I did was have some wine and watch Wall*e. What a great movie. So few movies can evoke so much emotion, let alone an animated one with little dialogue.
Hmm other happenings. Jenny came to town Wednesday to go to a concert with Jaclyn. I offered to drive them, take them to dinner, etc. And it was really nice; I hadn't spent time with Jaclyn in ages, and she had some very kind things to say.
We were at Joe's once the concert was over, and Jaclyn said, "X, I like hanging out with you because you're uplifting." And I thanked her profusely. It's rare when someone says such a positive thing to me, and lately, I've been in need of it. Between the cold dark dreary weather, endless single-tude, the slowly wearing grind of work… it all adds up. But she took some away.
It was also unexpected. Yet I like it when people are honest with what is on their mind, regardless of whether or not it's something that would make ME feel good. But sometimes I'm not good at being totally honest.
Things have been going well today. Jaclyn and I have tentative plans to go to Jacqueline's. Weird, I know, but she insists she likes dive-bars, so it should be amusing. And Nicole's bday gathering is tonight too.
I stopped into Moda to get my messy hair cleaned up, and my main lady Bridget did it for free. She said she would always clean up a haircut a few weeks after the initial cut, which was exactly what I wanted before the holiday. She is very kind.
I swung by Bookworks afterwards and picked up a Stan Getz album they happened to have, Focus. It's a collection of recordings from 1961, when Getz was 34. I'm excited to sit down and really listen to it, to compare it with People Time, from 1991, which I've fallen in love with.
