Perhaps instead of "vote for best" you could do "vote off the weakest" each round. Less point counting for you, and generally more fun and entertaining than people in the top winning by a landslide. Sure there's risk involved that you have a "crap week," but that'd be no different than it is currently. Makes the competition tougher if there's the possibility of someone resting on their laurels, too.

Lots of LIMS work that way, however I personally like the "Vote for the Best" because the good icons get a chance for good crits, unlike other LIMS where people tend not to give crits for the nicer icons. Maybe a mix of the two though, highest quality and lowest quality voting?

yes but I think better vote the best, and maybe if want to vote for the lowest quality should come with a reason/crit to improve ?

I totally agree, crits are what keep people coming back in my book. I hate that at textless_battle half of the votes don't get crits. Helpful crits really help me get better too, so having at least a small explanation of why I got a good or bad vote is a good enough reason for me to continue participation. At inuyasha_lims crits are required, but we only vote for the lowest quality.

yes, they keep me coming back of course, It's nice to see how ppl say about our graphics, and if they suggest something to improve, it will be delightful..
so maybe the best doesn't have to get crit but if we choose lowest Q, we have to put a crit for them..=DD
