celsius_matti 's post of
last week's sermon, which inspired her to foster a child, coincidentally (?) in malawi), pastor kitson cited
maria silo (pronounced see-lo): "
Maria Silo is 36 years old and has four children. Both she and her youngest child are HIV positive. Yet this does not deter Maria. Working for Ekwendeni Hospital in northern Malawi, Maria visits communities, teaching about HIV and AIDS, fighting stigma and discrimination and bringing comfort and hope to those affected by the disease." pastor kitson also likened maria's name to mary, mother of jesus and bringer of hope into this world. pastor kitson contrasted the abundance of god's gifts with the extravagance that the rich of the world have assumed, the extravagance that leads to scarcity in this world, whether geopolitical or environmental. he decried the "lunatic fundamentalist" christians who would see the destruction of this planet as hastening the second coming of christ, which pastor kitson called planetary suicide. pastor kitson offered many suggestions of how we can make personal changes in our home, including using CFLs, driving less, unplugging things, buying local food, buying organic food, and eating less meat. he recommended
