"The Long and Winding Road"

As I write this, I'm listening to BP's latest attempt to fix the mess they've made in the Gulf Coast. How it takes the strongest nation and one of the largest corporations in the world more than five weeks to (hopefully) fix this is beyond me. The newscast is asking, "is this the beginning of the end for the oil industry?" At this point, I don't believe that it is, and we may have to deal with a lot more of this crap before things improve. It's enough to make me want to sell my car.

Anyway, on a happier note! I am home for keeps this time, after wrapping up my ABQ course in North Bay. I didn't pay as much attention as I should have at times, but I still did well enough in the course. Just have to hand in the placement assignment once I complete the last two days of that.

On that note, placement is being done at Saywell again, with a sixth grade class this time, one I taught music to during my previous weeks there. It's been quite enjoyable seeing my old students again, and as my associate teacher also works a bit with JK and SK, I get to sit in on story time with 5-year olds, which is actually a lot of fun.

This past weekend, Sarah and I once again headed to London, this time for Emma's birthday and the LOST finale (more on that later). While we didn't get to see everyone I would have liked to, there was some quality time spent with the usual crew. It's very strange to think that most of us are now done with school for some time (although I daresay most of us are thinking of getting a master's degree in the next five years or so), but it's also evry exciting for all of us to be starting our new lives! I hadn't realized how much I'd missed these people until my face started aching from all the laughing. And after some last-minute changes to our sleeping quarters, we crashed at a friend's house, where Sarah fell asleep immediately, and I was up until 3 mulling over the implications of the finale.

Ah, the LOST Finale. Most of the people I've talked to were happy with it, though there are some who wanted more out of it. I'd still say it was possibly the best episode the show has ever done, and while we didn't get everything answered, there's enough left in there that you could put together most or all of the answers (even the DHARMA supply drops...see the link at the bottom). And looking back on some of the unanswered questions, all I really have to say is "who cares?" If it was important to the storyline, it would have been explained. And if you're still upset and yearning for answers, according to rumours, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof will allegedly explain pretty much everything else on the season 6 DVD, which is being released in late August (which, will give people a good three months to digest what happened and re-watch the show to pick up some answers they may have missed). This has been my favourite show for the last five years, and since I started watching in the second season, it seems only fitting that it should end as my university career comes to a close.

Finally, the most exciting news: the Toronto District School Board Elementary Panel has placed me on their eligible-to-hire list, meaning I passed my interview and starting on Monday, I can apply for elementary jobs in the TDSB. Looks like I might be teaching in the fall after all!

PS: Interesting note: today is the 70th anniversary of the Miracle of Dunkirk.
