"It's Been Real Educational"

On Wednesday morning just after 8, I hauled my rather exhausted butt out of bed after deciding it was a bad idea to stay up until the offers for Teachers' College were posted. Probably a good idea, since the student websites are closed from 12-6 in the morning, and the stress of waiting plus lack of sleep would probably have made for a very irritable and twitchy zombie-Jeff. But my wait was over, and in my inbox there sat an offer of admission from Nipissing, and another one waited for me on UWO's student website.

*ahem* YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!! I finally know what's happening in September!

In the end, there wasn't much of a contest for a choice. I'm going to accept the offer from Nipissing. There are quite a few factors involved in this, but the biggest one is that I've quite simply been getting very restless in London. I have spent the last 4 years of my life living here, and I will miss my townie friends terribly, as it appears I may be the only one in that group who's leaving the city in the fall. I even enjoy the city quite a bit, especially with all the cool stuff that happens in the summer. But the fact of the matter is that I need out. I think a lot of it stems from all the crap that happened with my playing in third year, a hunch that the specialist I see for the problems agreed with. In fact, before I even told him I was planning on leaving the city, he strongly suggested I leave for a while. This morning at Banting, I got another good reason to go to Nipissing: the Thames Valley District School Board may not be hiring at all next year due to decreased student enrollment.

So, I'm off to North Bay in 5 months. I will spend the time in between living in London, though it is also my plan to make more frequent excursions to Whitby this summer. I want to do at least one practicum up North, but I will also be looking into doing one in London and one in Durham region, as I have offers from a few teachers I've worked with before. And until then, there's housing to be looked into, possible roomies, tuition, etc., etc.

But at least I know where I'm going now. And for the that reason, Formal tonight will be so much sweeter.
