Some reccity-recs...
Stargate Atlantis
Infinity,
Deux Ex Machina and
Causal Effect (not a series). All by
in_wintertime, all gen and Rodney centred. Actually, if you've got a hankering for Rodney angst then this is *so* the author for you. This is some of the finest, creepiest, compelling storywriting this fandom has to offer. The author has a great talent for weaving a mind-fucking tale that leaves with you with that sense of gasping at the end. If I had to pick one to start off with I'd go with Causal Fault which is, perhaps, simpler than the others (I say this about an author who isn't simple at all) but they're all *fantastic* reads. I was so delighted to come across these (thanks once again
kitestringer!)
Help Wanted by
suzvoy (McKay/ Sheppard, PG-13)
Any fandom should count itself lucky to have Suz. She's funny, she's witty and she's just a little poignant too. It's a rare combination. Unfortunately, this looks like a one-off so be sure to nag her for more. Promise to kill puppies or something.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/ Angel the Series
Les Cousins Dangereux by
annakovsky (Connor/ Dawn, NC-17)
So this is incest-fic between characters who are only related due to the intervention of mystical forces. Which should tell you that this is an AU. This is a story borne out of another story
annakovsky wrote with the self-explanatory title of
Five Families Connor Was Not Magically Squeezed Into After His Real Vampire Dad Slit His Throat which included, amongst others, Connor being magically inserted into the Summers family.
annakovsky riffs a little more on that theme and we end up with a far deeper story about two people trying to figure out who they are and what the hell they're here for. It's sad and it's perfect - and a very sweet read.
Battlestar Galactica 2003/ The Pretender
Wheel Has Spun by
zeplum and
The Wreck Keeps Running by
bantha_fodderSo what is it about 'Jarod and Miss Parker meet the colonialists' stories that *so* works? Who knows? But there's something about the secrecy of the Centre, the enigma of Jarod and the desperation that is Miss Parker that really suits the Galactica-verse. These stories are quite different, yet I like them both for getting the tenacity of Miss Parker *so* right.
zeplum plays Miss Parker as a survivor, someone who rises above it all.
bantha_fodder writes her as a soldier who can't leave the war behind. I love both versions. Check 'em out. And if you feel so inclined, write a BSG crossover. They're so much fun!
