James P. Calk was released from the Arkansas Department of Corrections on June 26, 2004 after serving his entire six-year sentence for aggravated assault; therefore he is not on Parole. He was in the Maximum Security Unit due to his history of violence. While in prison, Calk wrote letters describing his intentions and desires to become a serial rapist and serial murderer like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy. He described that he wants to see his victims "SCREAM AND CRY, BEG, MOURN, AND WEEP AND FEEL PAIN AND AGONY" because that is what excites him. Arkansas tried to commit him for mental health reasons, but was unsuccessful. At 0515 hours on June 28, 2004, Calk boarded a Greyhound bus bound for San Diego, California. Calk has no contacts in San Diego and it is unknown why he chose this city. The Special Investigations Unit surveilled the Greyhound Bus Depot at the estimated time of his arrival, 1600 hours on June 29, 2004, but Calk was not on the bus. The bus stopped at several cities along the way including El Cajon and San Ysidro. At this time, Calks whereabouts are unknown and he could be headed anywhere in the United States.
