The story of Nibbles

Jul 25, 2005 22:06

Nibbles is my four year old rabbit. He lives in my room along with myself and my cockatiel, Sunshine. He is a very sweet rabbit that is spoiled rotten. (by me)Each day I let him out to run around my room and stretch his legs. he enjoys hiding under my bed when it is time for him to go back into his cage. (for he knows, he knows!)he knows when it is time to be feed and he also knows the sound and smell of his yummy yogart treats. Of course there are days when I come home late and am way to tired to let him out or I go on vacation and the person taking care of him does not let him out. So this is when it happens. Nibbles takes revenge on me. he is a genius I tell you!!! (I am not Insane... Mostly anyway, I promise) well you know the bars on the sides of the cage right? Nibbles knew that when he chews on those he makes the most annoying sound imaginable. He also only does this when I am in the room and about around midnight and four o'clock in the morning. well, the first few nights I tried to ignore him but then I started not being able to sleep, can you believe that? Being kept awake by a rabbit. I started throwing things at the cage when he wouldn't stop and this was to no avail. so as loudly as i could without waking up my parents started yelling "Nibbles Stop it!". this would only make him stop for a few seconds before he would continue chewing away. After many nights of this on going suffering I started running over to his cage and hitting the top of it. this is very silly because it is so dark in my room during the night and my rabbit is completely black and the only thing i can see of the cage is the faint outline of the white bars. all you can hears is "Nibbles!" "Thud, thud, thud" of me running blindly over to his cage, and in the mean time i have to pass by the bird Sunshine's cage to get to Nibbles and every time I pass, I scare the poor bird. The sounds in the night "Nibbles! thud, thud, thud, Squawk!thud, thud, thud" now i finally make it to the cage to whack it a few times with my hand trying to scare the rabbit into stopping. I stand there a little while to whack the cage every time he starts to chew. Finally I think he has learned to stop. Sooooo I turned around and went back to the bed. Right when i way down he starts up again.GR!!! Fine he has won. He is a genius, because i went and slept on the couch. In the morning I ended up feeling guilty about it because i had scared him last night with the hitting of the cage, so i took him out for even longer than normal and I petted him and played with him and even give him an extra treat, I also give him more alfalea cubes (rabbits chew to grind there teeth). I thought for sure he would be good, I was wrong and that morning mom found me again on the couch. This time i had a plan. hehehe. i was going to take away the bars of his cage. that is what i did, i made him his own area. It has special flooring so he will not ruin the hard wood in my room and i put a gate up so he is in his own area. i think he won in the long run nut now he has no bars to chew on and i don't have to sleep on the couch. that makes us equal. But sometimes I was sure he had to be laughing at me during the night.
