I don't make resolutions as such, but I do have an ongoing 'to-do' list that I started prior to 2012. 2012 was the year I started adding the year to things on the list. Some of them are still there, which I guess says a lot about how unimportant they really are. This list is divided into sub-headings such as work, home, personal, weekly, monthly, quarterly. Some stuff stays on, with only the time I'd like to have it done by changing - such as the Briefs for book club, which has Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring editions.
A long time ago I read a fanfic that included a reference to New Year Traditions and starting the year how you meant to go on. It was a Voyager fic, because I remember it went along the lines of Tom's mother always making sure her house was tidy before midnight, with the intent it would be tidy the whole year through, so Tom had approached Chakotay in order they would be in a relationship. Can't remember who wrote it, or what it's called, or even if I have the details exactly right, but that's what's stuck in my head. I wish thinking about it hadn't given me the urge to clean my pantry!
Now there's no way my house will be completely tidy by tomorrow, and there's no reason why resolutions can't be made and started at any time of the year. My to-do-list says to write things in my lj other than book reviews in 2017, so I've started today, or rather, started yesterday. And now I'll go and clean the pantry.
