Getting out of the house was definitely a good idea at this point. Roger was sick of staring at things and thinking. Something had to get him out of his head. Lavender was definitely great for that, but Roger didn't actually want to suffocate her. He'd been about to owl Eddie to con him into Muggle football for an afternoon when he got an owl from Mandy.
It worked perfect. Especially if she needed cheering up. She was sort of his unofficial little sister at this point, so he was always on board with that.
Roger made sure the house was locked up and was glad Kirsten wasn't around before he apparated to Mandy's.
He knocked on her door and shoved his wand into his back pocket.
Mandy was glad that she heard back from Roger so quickly. It definately made her busy today which is kinda what she really needed. She still hadn't recovered from everything with the World Cup and then her fight with Drew, things weren't okay. And now finding out once of her housemates was killed, yikes, it was a rough time.
She quickly changed into some jeans and a sweater and waited for him to show up. She didn't really care what they did, she just needed a friend.
when Mandy heard the knock she ran up to the door and open it and flung her arms around him, "Hey!"
"I guess that did have to happen eventually," he shook his head.
Roger scratched at his neck as he passed her by. "Good. I guess? I don't know. The casualties list came out. Yeah, that came out. Otherwise, I'm good?" He threw himself back onto her sofa and shrugged. There wasn't any other way to describe it.
Other than that. He was actually pretty awesome, but that was mostly just because of Lavender. "Yeah. I'm good otherwise. Pretty awesome, actually."
Mandy gave him a little hit when he walked by at his joke. "Very funny Davies."
She curled up in the other corner of her couch and listened to him. She felt her eyebrows raise up when he kept saying he was good. She laughed and shook her head, "Well I'm glad that you are good?"
MAndy coudln't believe when she herad about Reina. She didn't know how to handle it. It would be weird going back and seeing an empty bed in their dorm. She didn't know what would happen that first day at school.
"It's the little things? And I'm tired of being depressed." Roger spent a lot of time depressed after his father died the year before he went to Hogwarts, not really coming out of it until second year some time. He didn't want to get that way this time, especially since he figured this was only the beginning.
"What about you? How are you doing?" He wasn't sure how close she was with anyone on the list or what had exactly happened to her at the Cup.
Mandy nodded, she could understand being tired of being depressed. Everyone went through different things in their life and it made them who they are.
When he asked her how she was she shook her head, "It's been rough. It's hard to think about Reina being gone. I mean we shared a drom room right? And I don't know who to talk to."
"Yeah. That's got to be tough. I didn't really know her very well." Roger nodded. He couldn't imagine if it had been Eddie or one of his other friends, someone he knew more than in passing.
He didn't much want to think about it, either, since it had almost been Lavender or Roger himself.
"I don't know who you talk to about that stuff. I mostly...don't mention it. I never did." When his dad died, Roger spent a month or so only talking to Lavender regularly and everyone else when he acutally ahd to.
She sighed and shook her head, "It reminds me of losing Daddy all over again. I was so much younger then though and I fgiured I ould do better with age but it is just bringing back so many memories you know?" MAndy knew that Roger had been in the same boat losing his dad when he was younger.
"And on top of it that fight with Drew, didn't help things."
"I don't think it ever get... easier." Roger's eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head. Hell, he couldn't even deal with people he was close to almost dying. He had some left over trauma from his father's death, but Roger wasn't the type of person who could talk about it. He wasn't even sure he could listen to Mandy if she wanted to talk about it.
Shaking his shoulders out a bit, he raised his eyebrows and tilted his head. "What did the puppy do? Do I need to pay him a visit?"
She sighed, she knew it was true but it wasn't something she wanted to hear. She wanted to hear that soon it wouldn't be hard and everything would be okay. It wouldn't hurt so much the next time something like this happened.
She shook her head, "We had a fight. It's my fault but he was just pissing me off with his attitudes about Slytherins."
Roger would like to tell her things like that, but he wasn't much for empty platitudes. That never worked for anyone.
"Let me guess. They're all evil and working for You-Know-Who?" Disdain was dripping from his voice. "That's bull shit. Kellie was a Slytherin and she's never taken up the dark arts in her spare time."
Roger wasn't too into house stereotypes. Granted, he thought it made sense to put everyone where they could really hone their particular skills, and he was guilty of judging people based on their placement, but he was too close with Gryffindors and his older sister to buy into too much hype.
Done. Give me twenty.
