IMPORTANT: Make your voice heard. Stop the purge!

I decided to make a separate post for this because the very thought of this actually happening sickens me to the core.

In the most recent post at news, LiveJournal announced that it is going to start purging journals and communities that have been inactive for more than 2 years in order to free up usernames. If they go through with this thousands of invaluable stories, art, meta, RPing journals and so much more could be lost forever!

The wilful destruction of information & media is something I have never been able to abide. If LJ does this, it means that our priceless memories are not safe. Your favourite stories are not safe. Your ridiculous journal from middle school which you may one day want to revisit in a fit of nostalgia is not safe. LJ needs to understand that just because a journal or community is not currently in use by its owner, that doesn't mean no one values its content.

Please, please drop by and leave a comment on this post to let LJ know that purging inactive journals and communities with content is NOT OKAY!

ETA: Crisis averted! LJ has clarified their new policies and will not be purging journals or communities with more than one entry.
