Maybe you've seen the recent ad currently running on national television in support of Clair McHaskill's Missouri Senatorial campaign. They feature Michael J. Fox talking about stem cell research and the diseases it could help cure in the near future such as Parkinson's Disease, which Fox has been battling for over a decade. In the ad, Fox is visibly not in control of his movements; it brings home the point that these diseases can ruin your life. Now, I'm not terribly enthused about Michael J. Fox going on tv and whoring himself out for a single Senate campaign; I think there are better ways to spend that money such as on actual research or trying to get an actual bill or ballot question through Congress. But if this is the way he wants to get his message across, then more power to him. It's his money to spend, and his message to spread.
However, what I don't think is that Michael J. Fox faked his movements, or deliberately went off his meds in order to look more pathetic. I would never think that the preceding statement would ever have to be said, but apparently it needs to be in print because
Rush Limbaugh actually thinks this is the case. Don't believe me?
Here's the audio. Coming from a man who knows all about
being on and going off his meds (
again and
again), I think it's completely despicable that Rush Limbaugh would say something so ridiculous seemingly to get ratings. Then again, it's also not surprising in the least.
Perhaps Rush Limbaugh isn't a total scumbag. Perhaps he was hopped-up on Oxycontin for "dramatic effect".
