well, it could be the kinds of love...apparently the greeks (or was it the romans?) defined four kinds of love.

so...he may be feeling the kind of love you feel for a friend for michelle while feeling romantic love for jake.

or at least, we can dream.

ok, i haven't seen the movie, but i would hope the msg that it sends it about "agape" and "eros" between the two men, not "philia". which should be the same as the love between heath and michelle.

im guessing because his love for michelle was formed under the okay of society and probably followed some kind of formula...and he knew what was happening....while ennis' love for jack was denied, unexpected, and not understood by Ennis.

Heath and Michelle's love makes sense all the time because their surroundings allow it to make sense. Ennis' love for Jack never made sense, even to himself to an extent, except on Brokeback Mountain.

that's probably why he couldnt draw on michelle. the circumstances were too different
