On September 23rd, at 4:51 AM CDT, the Autumnal Equinox will occur. To our Northern European ancestors, this was Winter Finding, the end of the harvest and the beginning of preparations for the winter. It also began a period of celebration that ended with Winter's Night in mid-October. Like the Twelve days of Christmas, these days were considered a time of change, an ending of the old and the beginning of the new.
This is a time of rebirth, a sloughing off of an old skin. It is a time when old hurts are forgiven, old laughs and good times are relived, and when everyone can get a fresh start. I don't expect anyone else to regard this time as special; after all, it's our pagan past that it comes from. But to me, it's the most precious time of the year, and that's not just because the weather starts turning the way I like it.
So I invite all of you to hit me with your best shot. If there's anything you want to tell me, any wrong (or right) I've done you, now's the time to speak up, even if it's purely anonymous. E-mail me if you don't want the world to see your comments. I intend to begin afresh, to start everything over. I will not resent you for letting me know.
I know it won't be perfect; after all, it'll still be me. But On Sunday morning, I want to get rid of everything I don't like about me. If there's something YOU don't like, let me know.
But I'm keeping the pug.
