Imaginary Boyfriend weekend

So nothing sewn this weekend! We didn't do much, although we did walk out to lunch on Saturday when it was nice. Just appreciated each other's company. I guess two weeks apart does that for you! Two more weeks til he comes back to visit again. (Eventually I'll go visit him, but...not when he's living on his friend's couch. No private time there.) I want the time to go by faster to see Tom, but...I shouldn't wish the time to go by faster because I'm running out of sewing time!

I was reasonably motivated today though, once I got going. Having a stitch'n'bitch with the Usual Suspects this coming weekend, so I'm trying to be mindful of that. I always like to avoid bringing the machine if possible... maybe I'll do ballgown bodice eyelets and boning. We'll see.

Anyway, to that end, I decided to start on the rational dress bodice. (Don't ask how my mind works. Somehow it makes sense to me.) As you probably don't remember, it's a two-piecer: a cutaway jacket with a vest underneath. I had the mockups cut out and sewn, so I started today with the vest mockup. Got it fitted without too much trauma -- the only major changes I really had to make to the pattern were to take some width out of the bust and to mostly get rid of the drop-shoulder, as I saw no need for low tight armholes on something that's got a jacket over top of it anyway. Plus...those were really tight and really low. Not especially comfy!

Cut the back piece out of natural linen, as it was the first scrap on top of the heap, and lined the fronts in ivory linen (blend?). Used the last piece of my plum & pink wool/cotton twill for the vest fronts, so I was getting flashbacks to Mr Prince Albert's day vest... I'm not covering buttons for mine though, thanksverymuch. As of tonight, it's definitely on its way to looking like a vest.

Next up is collar-wrangling (ugh, especially as I fussed with the neckline enough that I'll need to make a mockup. ugh). I really need to at least get the vest done this week, though. It's practically November, people!
