Manners on dA

Okay. I'm not a serious artist. I'm not really serious about much of anything except... not being serious. Basically, I only draw to amuse myself and don't have aspirations to enter any kind of art field as far as careers are concerned.

But still, I always appreciate feedback on how I can improve, which is unfortunately something I don't get much of. Doesn't mean I'm perfect, obviously! :D But I really do like hearing, "ok, this is a good idea, but this is off, fix this, blah blah." I may not be serious about art, but I love learning stuff and improving. That's half the fun of it.

However, I think it's just rude to show up on someone's dA account, view a deviation and leave a comment like this; "nice pic, come visit my page when you get a chance."

My page is not for you to whore yourself out in order to get more page views. If you like my artwork, I'm honored, but I don't really think you're being genuine in your remarks if you make your feedback to me a lame two word response, followed by a longer advertisement for yourself.

It bums me out that there are some artists that measure their skill, talent and worth as an artist or writer or poet by the number of pageviews they get. Come on. That is so not what it's about. If you're happy with your artwork, just let that be enough. So what if you're not popular on dA?

And lastly, just... please... be polite when you're visiting someone's page. It's not advertising space for you; that's their gallery where they are displaying stuff they're proud of. Some people put a lot of time and effort into their work, (not me, haha!), and rely on that good feedback to improve and are truly serious about entering the art field. If you want pageviews, go and pimp your art in appropriate LJ communities, or join dA communities so other people can find you and your page legitimately.

I can sum this up pretty simply; don't be a dA jackass.
