I've already changed the channel...

Channel 64 announced that after the commercial break, Natalee Holloway's mom will be on to scold the government of Aruba...  I mean, talk about her daughter...  coming up next!

You know what, I'm sorry Natalee's missing, I truly am.  That must be horrible for her friends and family...  But mom, let me say something to you; if you watched a Girls Gone Wild two minute infomercial, you might have some idea what kind of stuff goes on when girls go on vacations unsupervised like that.  (I read somewhere that this trip wasn't supervised, but if that's untrue, I'd appreciate it if someone could please correct me.)  Kids do stupid, irrational and sometimes dangerous things when left to their own devices, and letting your daughter go on a graduation trip like that, if it were unsupervised as I read, is just stupid on your part.  I can't imagine how hard my mother would have laughed if I told her I was going to Aruba for a senior trip.  "Like hell you are, sweetheart, now go clean your room."

Eighteen or not, my mum wouldn't have been hearing it, and in retrospect, I thank her for her presence of mind not to turn me loose simply because I hit "the magical age."  She knew I was still dumb, and as long as I lived under her roof, I was not permitted to act stupid...  and now that I'm out on my own and have that lesson deeply etched into my skull, I'm hugely grateful to her.

Anyhow...

I didn't turn off the TV because I'm insensitive to Natalee's mother, but I'm sick of the message our obsessive hunt for Natalee is sending.

Let me ask this; why do we care so much about Natalee Holloway, giving it constant media attention, yet no one thinks to air a special for Tamara Jewel Keepness.  Oh?  You haven't heard of her?  She's missing from her home in Regina.  That's all the attention she's ever received.  No national coverage.  No time slot for her frightened parents to plea for help in recovering their beautiful daughter.  Oh, and before I forget, Tamara isn't white and blonde.  Her parents are not rich.  They're from Mexico, according to my readings.  Where's her one hour time slot on Fox News?

Personally, I don't understand why Natalee is so important to find, more so than any other missing child.  She has been in the news constantly.  I was just as frustrated over the Laci and Conner Peterson fiasco and wondered why they cared so much about those two when we had a very similar case in my area involving a black woman.  I heard about it only once on the news, and that was it.

I've said this before and I'll say it again; if you aren't pretty, white, blonde and American, and you end up missing...   You're fucked.
