Last night was just breathtakingly amazing, and lots of fun. It was one of those nights that I've been missing alot because everybody has been busy these past few months. Me and my friends barely have the same days off, and when I do get to hang out with them... its usually for a quick lunch, or the usual movie -- things that are quick entertainment.
Anyways, like I mentioned in a previous post... we went to see the Dreamgirls at the Ahmanson. The Ahmanson is one the famous theaters in the downtown Los Angeles area, and is flanked to its side by the venue of famed LA Opera. A few steps down the road is the well known Walt Disney Concert Hall where the Los Angeles Philharmonic plays. Basically this place is one the best spots for a night at the theater.
We ate at this french restaurant called Kendall's Brasserie. It was all fancy shmancy, so fortunately we weren't underdressed because it would have been too overwhelming to sit and eat at such a fine dining atmosphere. They impressed with the yummy desserts (aptly named Chocolate Profiteroles with Cream Chantilly) and the fact that they take into account that we were going to see a 8pm performance. Service was decent and the food was served fast.
The production itself was amazing... if you've seen the movie version that came out a couple of years ago... this Broadway musical will leave you wanting more.... the music was amazing, and all the performers belted out the iconic songs with perfection. Especially Moya Angela who played Effie (the role Jennifer Hudson played in the movie)... damn the girl has some really powerful pipes! Her rendition of "I am Not Going" was sooo good. And Chester Gregory who plays Jimmy "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy in the film) was so hilarious that every scene he was in, all of us just started laughing like crazy.
After the performance... we were playing like kids around the fountain near the Ahmanson --

After midnight, we had some good Chinese food (like we explained to Ernesto... its the Asian verison of comfort food) at Wonkok. Thank God for cheap eats!
