Oh dear, skylarking again! It had been given as a cause of death more than once in the Naval Chronicles.

Geoghegan, such a promising middie, one that Jack also cared about. Jack picked the boy up and carried him into the great cabin, tears running down his face.

Although he wasn't that promising a seaman - never could coil down a rope like a Christian...

It is always difficult for any middie to be introduced so favourably. They are never issued with red undershirts.

But in those few lines we had of him, he showed great promise.
