I can well understand that. When I read the books for the first time, the more I progressed the more I wanted to know about sailing, the era, the RN, the people, the cities and towns etc. That's when I started to collect books and links. May you enjoy yourself. :D
Again, you do not need to read any of those books and links, just enjoy the books. But if you are a bit like me and get curious about sailing, the RN, the era, the battles and the people, then you may like to come back to these posts and find a book or a link you may want to follow.
There exists the book Richard-Henry Dana Two Years Before the Mast. It is an account of american sailor of his service in some later years, the thirtees of the ninteenth century, but it gives good impression. (I was reading some extracts, it is still in my reading-list). And the language is quite poetic
