WYRD

Very odd, very odd!

One does one's duty, that's that. One pursues and takes prizes. You ain't to go disregarding orders for any one man on the ship. Expressly forbidden, in fact.

And, yet!

I didn't beat to quarters. I lost my French prize. Back to ducks and lizards, just to make an idiot of a surgeon's mate perform a little less of a cock-up job on a man's gut. One man's gut over my duty.

And because I turned back for Stephen, I was given the Acheron tied up with a silk ribbon.

Suppose there's a moral in that?
