sorry i've been so absent here. it's been a hell of a couple of months. i finally graduated college and i've been trying to get my act together and be a big girl. it's a work in progress but i am optimistic. but the real reason for this post, the fifth annual end of the year survey. sorry i haven't checked posts in so long i hope everyone is well and i'll try to keep on it better in the future.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Graduated college!! I completed Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Music Performance! Yay me!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made no resolutions last year and I think I’ll keep this year’s to myself as to not jinx it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Alexis had a beautiful baby boy ☺

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Another year and no close friends or family died. Still missing those that are gone.

5. What countries did you visit?
Does Indiana count as a foreign country? I think it should. I actually haven’t left the country in over a year. I’m starting to get stir crazy.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A successful relationship with a guy.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 21st, my Senior Recital.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Again with the graduating from college thing, pretty proud of that ☺ I was really proud of my senior recital too, I thought it went really well all things considered.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don’t think I failed at anything too badly this year, it wasn’t amazing but overall I thought all went well.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Actually, my health on the whole has been much improved. Still some intermittent problems with blood pressure and my body hating me but no hospital trips this or revolving door doctor trips this year ☺

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I bought a new computer *and* a new iPod this year, they’re both great ☺ oh and a new (to me) car! Lots of big purchases this year!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
There are so many people who have been so wonderful and supportive of me this year. Austin and Phillip have usually kept me sane and made me laugh, Carrie, Emily, Amy, Anna, Claire, and Katie, it’s been so nice to have a group of girlfriends to spend time with this year.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Nobody really did anything that I can remember that was incredibly stupid, mean spirited or terrible. Even I managed to not fuck things up too badly although there were definitely hard situations and stuff I wish hadn’t happened. So yay, nobody made me appalled or depressed!

14. Where did most of your money go?
Books, food, clothes, new electronics

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Graduating college, giving my senior recital and getting a big girl job! (I’m the secretary at Ridgewood Baptist Church and I love it!)

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Quietly, Night from The Rake’s Progress (I know that makes me a huge nerd but I spent like four months obsessing over it then ended up not singing it so it occupied a lot of brain power this year)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier I think.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, but not much.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer, definitely.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Relaxed instead of stressing out about everything, paid more attention to the world around me, believed in myself more, took more chances.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worry, cry, stress out about everything under the sun.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
At my dad’s house, with lots and lots of family and friends

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No.

23. How many one-night stands?
None

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Hard to choose, I’m still addicted to the West Wing but I’ve enjoyed watching Boston Legal and NCIS too.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Thankfully no.

26. What was the best book you read?
Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry was amazing, but it’s impossible to pick a favorite, I read so many good books this year.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
That I can go out on a stage and sing and actually have fun!

28. What did you want and get?
A car with power steering, an iPod, a diploma!

29. What did you want and not get?
A boy who loves me.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I think I’ll go with Keeping Mum, it’s hilarious and you should watch it! For a more serious movie, The Shawshank Redemption, it was wonderful and I can’t believe I’d never seen it before this year.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 and had a really chill birthday and went to Lynn’s with Austin, Phillip and Rob.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not spending so much of it worrying about everything, including things completely beyond my control.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Trying to dress more like a grownup, more business casual but still a big fan of a t-shirt and jean.

34. What kept you sane?
My amazing friends and family,

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I can’t really pick one because by the time I could have made an informed decision about anyone I was annoyed by everyone and the incredible media circus that was our election cycle.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Getting a president who’s not a complete fucking moron. (I am quite hopeful)

37. Who did you miss?
Daddy and lenny

38. Who was the best new person you met?
That’s a tough one, I didn’t meet a whole lot of new people this year. I suppose my group buddies from Ed Psych were cool, but we didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time together.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Sometimes the things that are worth it are really hard and really scary and it doesn’t mean you should run away from them. I’m trying to do less running away these days. It’s a work in progress.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I forget the difference between being loved and being a loose pocket one wallet short-sighted friend to lift money off of. - Chris Thile (same song as last year, different lyric…)
