My Birthday began with being extremely hot and sweaty and ended with me being afraid for my life..

First of all let me say that orientation was pretty sweet. I met a couple people and we had a hypnotist

Second of all let me say that my family grad/bday party was also sweet. There was a random array of exotic pasta salads and I had my first swim of the year

Now that brings me up to yesterday.
I spent the afternoon doing some last minute preparations for my get-together that night and fishing.

Later on that night, a couple friends and I met up at the Puritan to begin my small birthday celebration and enjoy their legendary chicken tenders, unknowing of the dangers that loomed ahead.

We headed back to my house after the Puritan, started up a fire and caught some eels.
Kathleen, Jess, and Emily got me awesome gifts. Where would I be without an ipod shuffle and cat playing cards?? I just don't know.

Then it was time for some fireworks, lit by a man I call "Dad."
It was off to a shaky start from the beginning. The fireworks being awesome, but right over the trees, created worry in our minds.

Then it was time for the grand finale with our largest fireworks and- it happened- "OH SHIT!"- my dad shouted as he kicked the last almost-lit firework into the river, but it was too late.
The poorly judged direction of "the kick" sent the firework spiraling towards my deck. It exploded as it hit, sending blazing flak up onto the roof of my house and across the backyard, directly toward us.
I saw Jess, Emily and Meaghan shout "in the garage!!" as they sprinted for shelter, and Kathleen clutch her rosary beads tightly as she ducked for cover. As I too ran, I felt like I was caught in a scene from Independence Day.

In the end, no one was hurt, and surprisingly nothing caught on fire.
my favorite line was probably Jess's "I thought we were being attacked by aliens!"
