Flat!Sophos.

So, for those of you who don't know, ladyjoust managed to snag an advanced copy of A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner (review here)and was kind enough to share it with lots of her friends all across the country, including me (because she's super, extra fabulous). Someone had the idea to do kind of a Flat!Stanley thing and I've finally gotten around to compiling my contributions. Yay for getting unlazy!

Like any good diplomat, Flat!Sophos's first stop was to the Capitol building, to see the governor. Unfortunately, the governor could not make time in his schedule to see Flat!Sophos, so I took him on a short tour of the gardens, which he found lovely, even in the winter.

Next up was a Sacramento landmark that has baffled many a native. Flat!Sophos first looked at it from a distance, then from close up.

"Hmm," he said. "I can't see the purpose, but it is oddly fetching."

Flat!Sophos then asked my about the hills he could see in the distance. I explained to him that I lived just east of the Sierra Nevada mountains and all my life had had a view of the foothills. Flat!Sophos expressed a desire to visit the mountains and see if any Thieves lurked there, but unfortunately there was no time in his busy schedule.

P.S. I totally took that last picture standing on top of a jungle gym.

Even though there was no time to travel to the mountains, Flat!Sophos did have a little time to take in some of the natural beauty locally, expressing great appreciation for how green everything was in the dead of winter and musing aloud that, "It must be a pleasant place to spend time, in the heat of the summer."

Unfortunately, I could not convey Flat!Sophos in a style befitting his great rank. He was a bit disconcerted by this, though he was never less than scrupulously polite. He seemed to enjoy the accommodations much more once I gave him some interesting company.

Perhaps to your disappointment, there are no photographs of the place Flat!Sophos spent most of his visit. Because that place was my bed and I hold those memories too dear to sully with torrid photographs. You will just have to use your imagination.

All in all, I found my time with Flat!Sophos utterly delightful. I only wish it could have lasted longer. Now I'm counting the days until March 23rd when he can be back in my arms again, this time never to leave.
