I always thought the producers just said "OK talk about this" and began taping

"So lets talk about Jason" seriously who talks like this when they're just sitting around with their friends

Exactly. I'm telling you, it's not real real. Like, yes, they are all teenagers, and they probably live there. But the situations are created and exploited to make the show. They're not just following people around and taping their lives like a documentary with no input. They don't just have those cameras set up around the front porch step on the off-chance someone's gonna sit there. They position them, set them up, quiet on the set, and then they film. Like a TV show. With actors. ;P
