College so far isn't so great, but I'm still holding out hope that things will pick up. I got here uhh...wednesday, I think, and upacked, signed forms, etc. My room is absolutely gigantic, and my bathroom initially seemed sketchy, but once you get used to it, it grows on you. Maybe literally. There's a lot of mold. In fact, the janitor told me "this building is 50-60 years old...it's dilapidated at best." I wouldn't really say it's dilaaaaaapidated, per se, just seasoned. Anyhow, my roommate doesn't arrive until tomorrow, so I've had 3 days of large, luxurious privacy, affectionately called loneliness. My art program is not cool. We are building (built, because we finished today) organic cardboard boxes and writing (wrote) rhetorical questions inside of them using grass seed as our ink. Oh boy, it's just a barrel of fun. Our question was "Creative thought matters?" Yep, it's the school motto. Yep, we just added a question mark to the end in order to make it a question. The actual design though kicks ass, thanks to my artistic ingenuity based upon a decoration I once saw in anthropologie. Pitures will follow shortly.
I haven't really been able to make a connection with any of the other people here and that sucks. I've pretty much just been biding my time until tomorrow, when the rest of the school arrives, and I figure that out of the 400 or so arriving freshmen, I will be able to find 2 or 3 kids who I like and who like me. Also, Sam the Norwegian Skidmore kid arrives tomorrow, as well as Casey. I'm looking forward to both of their arrivals, and I've been planning all the things I can do and all the places I can go once I have a couple of buddies. The food is pretty good, and the campus is beautiful. The walls of my room are plastered with pictures from the past year and with an Italian poster of a chef peeling hardboiled eggs. Oh! I have a tv but didn't pay for cable so the only channels I get are the lifetime movie channel, outdoor living network, national geographic, the golf channel and the fox news network.
Pre-orientation sucks. Real orientation probably won't, as much.
