[ A duo of options today for those seeking out Selina Kyle. After all, she basically does live a dual life. Doesn't she? Pick either scenario and you'll have either the femme fatale cat burglar, or the woman that most of Mandalus seems to know. Just comment with which option you'd like!

OPTION 1; Night. For all those good doers (the cops, the ( Read more... )

What's behind curtain number 1?

[It's bad enough that she can't hook herself up to any of the technology here. She's spent a long time trying, making modifications, but it's not like anything she's ever seen before, and the Major is all but ready to give up on it. She can't hack into any of the networks, which means she's almost blind and deaf in comparison to what she's used to. It's driving her mad.

But it's not the worst thing. Half her functions are playing up- however they brought her here, it's done something to the nano-tech her prosthetics use. She has basic functionality- she's human but the strength isn't there as she's used to, the dexterity. The speed.

Not that it's stopped her so far. She's still out- she loved the night, no matter where it was. And this particular night was black, black as pitch and perfect for snooping. She's not sure she trusts this place, not one bit, and the fact that part of the city is cut off to her, out of bounds, makes her suspicions even worse. So she's... investigating.

She hauls herself up over the low wall bordering the roof. She could have climbed it without aid at home, no matter how tall it was. But here she's had to get inventive. In a shadow, crouched, she pulls off the climbing gear and stows it, and then stops. Her hearing is still spot-on, as sensitive as it always was and somewhere on the roof there's someone else- someone she didn't spot when she slipped over the parapet.

Well. That's interesting. There's got to be something going on. And so she pulls a gun from the holster on her hip, and creeps out of the shadow, around the air conditioning unit]

Catwoman of course!

[ Selina lacks the tools to watch anything at a distance, which was why she picked the building closest to the one she was watching. Her eyes scanned over the floors with her infrared goggles, waiting for her target to make an appearance. She was tracking one very prevalent member of the business community, supposedly one that owned a lot of the construction companies that helped rebuild the city. Rumor is that he is developing a few things that could help navigate the underground. Selina isn't one to go into the depths of the city, but she knows a few people who might be interested in the idea of the technology. Or, at least the idea of knowing what's going on in the city.

The snow on the rooftop crunches and she whirls her head around to look behind her, glancing around to see who might be up with her. Knowing her luck? It's just a cat. ]

[The Major is heavy enough not to have to worry about the crunch of snow- there's no air left to compress under her feet but the cat, or whatever it is, is a welcome distraction. She's not so fussed about making noise now, close enough to see the figure turn, the catch of what little light there is on her dark hair and on the figure-hugging suit.

She steps out of the shadow, safety catch clicking off the gun and that noise is loud on the silent roof-top.]

Do you want to explain what you're doing here?

[ At the sound of the other voice, Selina closes her eyes and a smile spreads across her face. Caught, hm? Standing up to her full height (plus for inches for those metal heels of hers), she turns her head over to where the voice is coming from. What is it with people hiding in the shadows? There must be a handbook that tells people it's the best way to surprise someone. ]

Unless you own the rooftop, I don't think that's a question you have the right to ask.

[The Major smiles back, keeping the gun steady. She's looking at a gymnast, that much is clear, and as such the gun isn't going to be very much use. But it throws people off, more often than not.]

It's not a matter of trespass. City's at war, or so I've heard. [She nods her head at the building across, the blocked site in the middle of the city. She doesn't take her eyes off the other woman though.] You've found yourself a fantastic vantage point. And I don't trust people who spend their nights spying from roof-tops. Call it an occupational hazard.

[ Gymnast, street fighter. It all rolls into one with how Selina fights. Turn their strength into your weapon and let them defeat themselves. ]

It's at war when it wants to be? Right now? We're in a calm spot. [ Selina looks back over at the building. Confidant that her target isn't going to be leaving any time soon, she reaches up and flips her goggles to rest on top of her head. ] I'm a bit of an expert in occupational hazards. If you want to use the excuse of us being at war? Think of it as I'm just trying to even out the field.

It's hardly an excuse. We're at war, and people waiting on roof-tops normally aren't waiting to deliver late Christmas cards. You can't honestly pretend you were up here with innocent intentions. [And with that, The Major takes a step forward. Not a large one, staying out of reach. Get to close, a gun is useless, and she's not sure she wants to get into a roof-top fight when her systems aren't 100%.]

Exactly how are you hoping to make it more even?

I don't do Christmas Cards. [ Selina laughs at that one. ] Who said they were innocent? Nothing about war is innocent. People die, soldiers or civilians.

[ Don't talk to her about war, Major. She's been under a warlord controlled city for five months. She's seen her fair share of what it's like when the world goes to hell. That's not including what she's seen in Mandalus. ] Giving our side what it needs to win. The people in this city aren't losing anything by us gaining knowledge they're not willing to share.

That doesn't mean they deserved it, or weren't innocent. I think your view on civilians is slightly skewed.[And with that, The Major slides the gun back into the holster.]

[Oh please. That's nothing. It's not nice, but there are worse things. You're no expert, none of them are] Our side. Assumes we're on the same side. But fine. [She turns her attention the the building across, surveying the blacked out windows] Who were you watching?

My view on everything tends to be skewed from how most people see it. [ There's a coy smile on her face at that as she shrugs. ]

You have one of these, making you one of us. Not the natives. [ She reaches up and pulls the glove down to show the Bangle resting on her arm. ] The hotshot across the way. [ A sigh. ] So, he's not someone I'll be investing my time in.

[Now that makes her smile too] That's probably why you've got an edge on everyone. But it doesn't mean you're right.

[The thing that won't come off. She had noticed that. But as it didn't seem to be interrupting any of her processes she didn't much care]

Hardly clean as a whistle.

"Right" is a matter of circumstance. [ Selina rolls her eyes. ] Everyone definition of right and wrong are different. What one person thinks is right, others will say that's wrong. The things that are wrong? In other places they're right. The world doesn't operate on terms of black and white.

[ Selina sits down on the roof edge. ]

What is in any world we come from?

[The Major can't, and never will, be able to agree with that. There are some things that are never, ever ever right, and there are some things that can ever, ever be wrong. But there are shades of grey, circumstances in which what law perceives as right isn't actually morally, the right thing to do. She's seen to much to ever believe the law is right all the time. Hell, maintaining the law is her job, and she knows exactly how many of them she breaks on a regular basis.]

We can sit around here all night debating philosophy ma'am. But it's cold, and probably going to snow again...

[But as Selina makes herself comfortable... oh well. And the Major settles down next to her, on the ledge.]

True. Although normally they don't give you a pep-talk to tell you you have to save the universe when you arrive.

[ Even if they are morally right or wrong, that hardly stops people from doing them. If there is a supposed "good" and "evil" in the universe, then why do people always shift between the two? People aren't purely good or purely evil. They're all shades of grey, and it just depends how dark or light your shade is. Not that she has any interest in expressing her views on the world. No one ever agrees with it anyways.

Selina shrugs. She may as well. Her night is somewhat of a bust, and how often do people actually talk to her while she's in this get up? Not many. ]

This world is a special case. [ Even if it's clear she doesn't think that. ] I still don't think our worlds are in any danger.

[Perhaps those ideas- good and evil- are made up more by the amount of actions that you do that are either good, or evil. The things you are seen to do, it all tallies up at the end of the day. People are just people, normally, they're neither definite shade. But there, getting into philosophy again and no one ever totally agrees either way.]

You could say that about every world. It's only that this one has no problems picking people up out of their lives and forcing them to do their dirty work. [Then she stops. And grins] You know, I've been considering the same possibility. There is no rhyme or reason to suggest this place's survival will effect anything outside it at all.

They say this one is at the center of all of them. That if this one dies, all ours die. That makes it a bit more of a special case. Not that I think it's any better than any other world out there. [ It flat out isn't. Selina smirks. ] People here aren't going to take the risk that it is true. Most the people here actually like the world they're from too much to try and get their hands dirty.
