[ A duo of options today for those seeking out Selina Kyle. After all, she basically does live a dual life. Doesn't she? Pick either scenario and you'll have either the femme fatale cat burglar, or the woman that most of Mandalus seems to know. Just comment with which option you'd like!

OPTION 1; Night. For all those good doers (the cops, the ( Read more... )

Option 1, of course, because this is long overdue

[Clad in costume, Spider-Man swung through the city. He wasn't quite sure this was something for him to handle, he hadn't sensed anything particular, but with the recent spate of thefts he was curious now.

Creeping up on people was a given for how quick and skilled Spider-Man had become and he crawled his way along the side of a building, stalking up behind her.]

[ The thing is, someone with a trained eye can see the costumed kid swinging around the city. Most everyone knew about Spider-Man to some degree. Not that Selina ever expects to run into him. She stands up, stretching ever so slightly. ]

[Regardless, Spider-Man headed along behind her, watching her stretch, and he stood up straight too, on the edge of a building.] You know, there's a cat burglar on the prowl, and you look an awful lot like a cat burglar would look.

[ There's a small jump before she whirls around to face Spider-Man, her hair fanning around her. She's going to start punching the next person who comes up on her like that. The only one she's never minded doing it was Batman, and that's just because it's how he is. ]

Don't tell me your jealous, kid.

With how good I look in this suit? No way!

[He chuckles and nods towards the city briefly.] You gonna tell me why you're stealing from nice people, or are we going to just tango?

Your suit isn't anything close to fashionable.

[ Selina smiles and shakes her head. ] What makes you think they're nice?

It's totally cool though. The point isn't to look fashionable. It's to be symbolic.

[He shakes his head.] They might not be. The might be total jerks. Still doesn't condone stealing.

It looks like a run on the American Flag. [ If that's supposed to be symbolic then okay, Spider-Man. ]

[ Selina walks away from the edge of the roof, balancing on the balls of her feet easily. ] Look, kid. You seem nice, but I think you have the wrong picture in your head.

But a totally cool run on the American Flag. And hey, I'm patriotic. A patriotic spider. [He nods a little.

But a frown creases his brow so distinctly it makes his mask shift into a frown too.] Look, lady, it looks to me that you're the cat burglar and stealing isn't okay, even if it's from bad people. Two wrongs won't make a right, I learned that lesson the hard way.

[And the idea of theft, particularly shoplifting, makes him unsettled.]

Just what the world needs. [ There's a roll of her eyes as she turns to look back at him. ]

They expect us to save their city and their world but won't give us what we need to do the job. All I'm doing is helping our side. [ Not that she expects a child to understand. ] If we have what we need? The sooner we win this war and the sooner all of us go home. Unless you want to live here the rest of your life.

So we have to steal it to get it? You've never heard of working together with people?

[He shakes his head a bit, sighing.] I know my values are old fashioned -- do good where I can because it's my responsibility to use the power I have justly -- but those are good values. If we all decided that taking what we want when we want it is a good idea, no one would be okay. The whole world would go to chaos.

Sure, they want us to save their world, so you don't think they'd work with us to help do that?

[He pauses for a second. He knows he could over-power her. He can catch a falling car with one hand. But he doesn't want to use brute force. He'd rather talk her down, so to speak.]

If they wanted to work together then they would have suggested it the minute we got here. Instead they just let us deal with their problems and go on celebrating like nothing has ever gone wrong. [ He voice turns steely at that point. ]

It's not old fashioned. It's just not how the world really works. [ She turns and approaches him, her hair falling over her shoulder as she moves with each powerful step. ] If what's good is good and what's bad is bad, then people wouldn't be having to crawl over each other in the streets just to eat day by day. People wouldn't have to drag others to fight their war from them. The world isn't good and bad, it's a scale of how much are you from one day to the next. Don't simplify the world, kid. There's no point.

Oh, yeah, just because I'm a kid I don't get that the world is shades of grey, my mistake, I must have missed the memo.

[He shakes his head a little, not intimidated like he feels he probably should be, or would be if he were a normal person.] You think they want us here any more than we want to be here? In case you didn't notice, they don't like us. We're the outsiders, and things have only gotten worse since we all started piling into their world. Don't you read the papers?

So it's supposed to be us that shows them we're not here to just steal from them, destroy their city, kill their friends... you know, it's up to us to do good where we can. The citizens didn't bring us here, The System did. These people aren't them, they're afraid of us, because we came in, took over their city, and now they've just gotta hope we can save them. I think they're allowed to be wary, lady.

You're the one that's talking about the greater good of people. [ The tack on of "kid" is just to make her point. ]

If the world worked the way you think it does? Even if they hate us, they'd be giving us what we need to get the job done. When people really don't like you? They'll do anything to get rid of you. Instead they just tolerate us and leave us alone. I'm not going to do my part in this war on their schedule. Don't think I care about this place or home. I just don't want to be a prisoner anymore. [ She doesn't want to be in Mandalus or Gotham, but if she got back home, then she can go anywhere she wants. She has the Clean Slate. Selina Kyle can be wiped from all the records of the world and disappear. ]

And you think I'm not doing good. I don't take their things so they don't have them. I just make sure we know what they know. Everyone wins. Not that I expect you to understand that.

Because not everyone is out to get everyone else, even if some people are.

[He shrugs, crossing his arms.] Or they're afraid of us and don't even want to get close enough to give us what we need. Maybe they don't even know what we really need. [Spider-Man shifts to sit on the edge of the wall, crouched comfortably.] I don't think any of us want to be prisoners, Cat. I just think you shouldn't forget that people all work differently. And not everyone here is human.

[He tilts his head a little bit.] But you're not sharing what you've got publicly. You might be sharing it with people, but I know there hasn't been any huge network revelations like "Hey, guys, this is how we win!" so while you're probably doing good by getting what we need, you're not sharing it with the class.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe your way is the right way. I'm just a kid, I don't pretend to know how the whole world works, I just know it's better to do good for goodness sake, than to do bad for the same reason.

[ She gives him a cynical chuckle at that remark. Everyone is out for something they want, Spider-Man. It just depends on how willing they are togo after it. ]

I don't think they'd be afraid of you. You're the Friendly Neighborhood superhero. [ He really does move like a spider, doesn't he? And she thought the jokes about her being a cat were bad enough. ] It doesn't matter to me if they're human or not. No one else is getting the job done, so I might as well.

The people I give it to give it to you. [ Like your friend Mr. Stark. ] If you want me to get you something kid, speak up, and I'll see what I can do for you in the future.

Oh don't be so condescending. You're better at the wit than the sarcasm.
