[Ezio isn't even sure what to say. It's typical of Mandalus to bring people who are barely hanging onto life, and they just drop them in the station without caring a damn bit. He knows Kate will get Desmond to the hospital, so that's where he decides he'll go first, and wait for them there, but he sends her a quick audio message.]
Kate, I will meet you both at the hospital. [There's nothing else to really say, and for now he can't quite process what's happening. It's for the best, really, or he'd be panicking.]
We're in room 3450. [Kate sits in the chair beside Desmond's bed, her fingers threading with the fingers of his good hand and that's where Ezio will find her when he arrives.]
[He doesn't text back, he just heads to the room, and carefully closes the door behind him once he's there. Pushing his hood back, he frowns a little as he looks at Desmond. His arm is wounded, that much is obvious by the bandaging, and he reaches to brush his hand over Desmond's head, a solemnity to his gaze as he looks at his descendant.]
[Kate doesn't look up from Desmond's face.] His hand's badly burned. They say it's similar to an electrical burn, but not really. And he's fallen into a coma. Not sure when he'll wake up.
[Ezio nodded a little, wanting to check the boy over himself, but he trusted that the doctors knew what they were doing. It would put his mind at ease to talk with Helen about Desmond later on, too.] Do they have any idea what caused the burns?
[Ezio was nearly certain this was because of Desmond's destiny, and he clenched his fists by his sides, hating The Ones Who Came Before that bit harder than ever.]
So much for modern technology. [He frowns a bit more and gives Desmond's shoulder a squeeze before he moves to grab another chair, pulling it to Kate's side and reaching to brush her hair behind her ear.] Do you need anything, tesoro? I can bring you coffee, tea, water?
Right? [Kate huffs. She keeps looking at Desmond when Ezio moves around then settles beside her. Her eyes slip shut when Ezio tucks her hair back and she sighs.] No, I'm okay. I had some coffee earlier. [And she'll get some later. Who's got two thumbs and is only gonna get, like four hours of sleep? This gal.]
If you're certain. [He rests in his chair, watching Desmond for a few more moments.] He will recover, you know. Desmond is... too stubborn to let burns keep him from recovering. He wouldn't let his pride take such a hit.
He will. [Kate nods.] The other blow to his pride will be the new nicknames to his hands. [A beat.] Original recipe and extra crispy.
[As much as the dark humor is meant to lighten the situation, a little sob rips its way up Kate's throat and her chest hurts. She lifts her hands to her mouth as the tears spill down her cheeks.]
[Ezio caught her humour but didn't follow it well enough to actually laugh. It was a relief, in fact, because she was crying a second later. He pushed his chair closer to hers and looped his arm around her shoulders, reaching for a box of tissues on the bedside table, holding it out to her.]
He's going to be so much trouble, when he's recovering. He'll use this as an excuse to be so lazy, and get all of your attention.
