[The Major had not been idle. As soon as she was able she was up and about, going as much reconnaissance as she was able to. She was no longer in Japan, that much was immediately clear. It was not any city she recognised, nor was she able to connect to any of her usual networks. Each and every attempt left a loud buzz of static in her ear ( Read more... )

I'm sure none of them have replied, so I'll give you your location. You're on an alien planet far from home, congratulations.

Thank you. Although I knew where I was, I was asking about theirs. I'd had the briefing when I arrived.

Most don't seem to pay attention, I thought you may appreciate the info.

[Bullshit, he just loves confusing newbies.]

They're not here.

Thank you sit, but I'd already established that information too. As much as I may feel a little conscious about my team, I am sure that I can get by without them for the duration of this war.

Although if you've got more information about this place, I'd be glad of it. The technology here isn't what I'm used to.

More or less advanced?

[He was always curious about this bit.]

A little of both. The nano-technology doesn't seem anywhere near the levels I've seen at home but the fact they can pull us from home... that's a piece of technology my government woud dearly love to have. I don't suppose you know anthing about how they're doing that?

We're still working on it.

[Half-heartedly.]

If they're bringing us here to fight for them, they should at least tell us how they did it. It's only fair.

I don't think they much care for what is fair or not. Not many governments do.

They never do. Government swine. They're the same everywhere.

I couldn't pretend I'm an expect. Maybe some are better than others. But a lot of politicians... Crawled out of holes in the ground.

Half of the things that actually crawl out of the ground are better than most politicians.

You're almost certainly right. At least here it doesn't look like we have to deal with many of them.

They deign to come out every once in a while, usually before something semi-horrible happens.
