It's called the Serpent. It's got the face of some God of Death this place used to have. It ate one of the people in control of this place, called Mother, and it's pretty much said it's gonna kill us all. If it destroys Mandalus, it'll destroy every world because this place is kinda like the middle of the universe.

Means what I said. If we don't save Mandalus, your world is gonna be destroyed, so is mine, so is everyone else's.
