action

[The Boss is a soldier. Well-trained, diligent, uncompromising. She also doesn't really like the cold very much, and normally she'd never even think about showing it. But she knows when to be reasonable, which is why, if you happen to bump into her out and about in the city today, she'll be bundled up with a scarf and earmuffs and looking ( Read more... )

[UH OH THAT DOESN'T SOUND GOOD.]

It's just a few cuts. I've stitched them myself, but I'd like a second opinion on a possible infection.

sending you coordinates to a hospital now, ma'am. if you prefer not to let the locals look at it, i have a few things against infections, too. how did you receive the injury and how did you clean it?

I'd prefer not to deal with hospitals here. The injury is from a large dog of some sort and I cleaned it with a basic antiseptic.

[Large dog, wolf, same difference. They can hash out details in person.]

[It takes her a moment, but she texts him her location in the Venetian District and then settles in on a nearby bench to wait.]

[He quickly snaps her a picture so that she'll recognise him, armour and all, and then he's on his way. He'll be hard to miss, the guy in full ODST armour, helmet still on his head, visor intransparent, carrying the backpack full of first aid supplies and ammunition. Still, he makes sure to draw attention to the identification number on his chest. And he, on the other hand, doesn't have much trouble noticing the wounded woman either.]

[He approaches her and nods, slightly bowing his upper body in greeting, and sets down the backpack. Pointing at his identification number again, then at the backpack and the woman's wounds, he approaches carefully, gestures her to show him.]

[Definitely hard to miss a guy in full armor, yeah. She stands when he approaches, nodding back at him, and then removes the bandages from her arm to show him the wound. Like she said before, it's only a few scratches, some partially healed, but a few have gone red like they're inflamed.]

They're about a week old. Scratches, not bites, so I doubt it's rabies.

[He nods, and then carefully takes her arm to inspect the wounds. Definitely inflamed, or something like that, and possibly too late for his first aid equipment to do much, but he has to try. He puts down his backpack and takes out a small cannister, shows it to her briefly. He gives her time to read the description, if the technical, medical information tells her anything at all, and then takes it back, squats down, and looks up at her. He raises and clenches his fist, hoping she'll understand his message. The application of the biofoam is going to hurt. Not much, perhaps, but enough to be uncomfortable. It's been compared to burning ants crawling around the wound or thousands of tiny knives stabbing into the flesh.]

[He shakes the cannister and concentrates on applying the foam to the wounds. Normally, biofoam is used primarily to stem bleeding from deeper and internal wounds, keep damaged organs in place, etc. But he knows it's also antibacterial, and can, to a certain degree, clean wounds and prevent further infection from ( ... )

[The Boss is nothing if not used to pain, and the biofoam doesn't get much of a reaction from her besides tensed shoulders and gritted teeth. She patiently allows him to apply enough foam to the scratches, watching with curiosity. It's much more advanced than anything she's ever worked with in the field, and she wonders if she can get her hands on some here or if it's something native to his planet.

When he finishes, she looks over his handiwork appraisingly.] Hm. How long will this last?

[The Rookie shakes his hand uncertainly. It's a temporary solution only, after all. He points at the red swelling, though, and then pulls his hands apart abruptly. The infection should be dealt with, unless it's already settled in too deep. Not quite sure how to best make his point understood, he points at her wounds, then at the communicator. She should still accept more professional help. Maybe pointing at the wounds again and then at the clock on his own communicator helps to make him understood.]

[Watching him try to mime his answer is almost amusing, if a little sad. But she gets his point well enough, and she nods to show she understands.]

I'll check it later then, thank you for your assistance. Do you have a name? In case I need to contact you later. [She could just call him by his ID number, but she's making an effort to be friendly.]

[He hesitates at the question, not sure how to answer it. He could give her his call sign, but he isn't sure how to mine that right now. So instead, he just shakes his head. His real name is classified for outsiders, anyway. But he lifts a finger after a moment and writes 'Rookie' into the air. It's the closest thing he can give her. And then he points at her.]

[She follows his finger and after a moment makes out the word he's spelling.] Rookie? Whole new planet and you didn't want to change your nickname? [She smirks and shakes her head before answering his inquiry about her name.] The Boss.

[He moves his head and rolls his shoulders a little uncomfortably. Honestly, he's got used to it - and hey, there's always the chance that his squad will arrive. So he shrugs awkwardly, and nods.]

[The name has him perk up, though. He points at boss, unsure, then mimes a salute and nods, then tilts his head in question. She might be a lot of things, but a soldier would be pretty good to know here.]

[Hey, if that's what he wants to be called, Boss won't argue.

She nods and salutes back, confirming.] United States military, if that means anything to you.
