[It’s a rocky outcrop in the desert. The city stinks like all the filth of humanity, and there’s only so long Gabriel can stand that before wanting to crush it all into dust, buildings and people and steel. Out here is better- the air is dry and pure and hot enough to suck all the liquid from your breath. And from blood.

But the red sigils painted on the rocks are still enough to stain, the rocks themselves blistering from the curses that cover them, scorching and smoking slightly. But perhaps that’s because of what happened there, of what is going to happen. The ground itself knows it, can feel the power building. It can’t rebel though, there was no free will for the earth or the air or the seas. There was no free will for any of it, or any of them, no matter what the humans want to think. It’s all pre-ordained.

Gabriel no longer looks like himself. There’s no cheeky glimmer in his eyes, only something much, much more vicious. There’s a purpose there that was never there before, at least not in the Gabriel that Mandalus knew. This is a Gabriel that Fell because he couldn’t stand to watch on the sidelines as his beloved brother was kicked out of his home, who Fell because their Father abandoned them for lesser creatures, creatures made of mud and ash who had no idea how to love their Father like the angels did.

All that tricky and idle malice has a higher purpose now. He’s not sitting and waiting for the Apocalypse to happen, for the pieces to fall into place. Now he’s actively encouraging it, breaking the Seals that keep Lucifer locked away, that keep him from achieving what he was created to do- bring their Father back to them and reunite the Family. If the Earth is burnt and the humans die in the process, well, they were nothings anyway. Mandalus is just the same.

The Fallen Arch-angel stands on the highest point of the outcrop, and looked upon his work. And saw that it was about as far away from good as he was going to get. ]

Did you hear the one about the Righteous Demon, the Boy King of Hell and the Angel Who Ate All the Souls? Turns out the punchline is a city covered in blood. With a whole collection of it's own special little Seals. Shall we play a guessing game? We break Sixty-Six, sorry, we break Sixty-Five now... and see who pops up at the end.
