[Tony had finally handed over the suit he was modifying for her, and though Pepper wasn't certain that meant it was actually ready, she decided to take it out for a test run - more accurately, a test flight
( Read more... )
[Teddy's not actually familiar with that particular stretch of roof-tops, nor is he actually listening to her feed. He doesn't fly as fast as the suits, but it's still impossible to do both things at once without a computer in your helmet. And Teddy doesn't have a helmet.
But he does spot the shine of an Iron Man suit in the light, although he doesn't know what version (isn't there, like 30?) and he follows. He hasn't seen, or spoken to Tony in a while- and besides, there are things going on at the moment that are sort of worrying him. That cloud thing for one. It's like something out of a sci-fi alien invasion movie, although he knows from experience they don't need big black clouds for that.
So he follows the metal suit down, tucking in his wings once he's landed and heads over the gravel-covered roof] Tony! Tony hi!
[Teddy laughs, stepping closer. "Just" Pepper? That's mean. Besides, being alone on a roof-top with Pepper is probably far less awkward, even if she's his boss.]
Oh cool, this is your suit? It's amazing! [He wants to touch, but even in his fan-boy state, he knows he shouldn't. That is a step too far] How's it fly?
[Nope. Well, he wouldn't have minded seeing Tony. But he's just as happy to see her. He likes Pepper, even if he still gets a horrible twisting guilt in his stomach]
And by early, you probably mean about 4am, right? Not that Tony noticed.
I could believe that! So are you going to be, you know, heroing with the rest of us now? I mean... [He glances upwards] We'll probably be doing some more of that soon. If you want to join in.
Well... I sort of learnt on-the-job. And if you've seen Tony then... [But she's right, and he doesn't want her getting hurt. Not because he suggested she should join in]
We'll still need you. You think clearer than the rest of us, and if you can get up high and see what's going on, that'd be really great. Sometimes in a fight, you can't see the wood for the trees. I mean, it's really hard to focus, you know?
[There's a pause, and then softer] What do you think's in there?
[At that his smile disappears. It could have been fun, really, to go up there with her. It looks ominous, but not dangerous. They'd be fine... But if she says no, he won't. Not yet. Not with her]
[He stops himself from making a face. Sometimes you just have to do things, even if they aren't brilliant ideas, because you don't have any other choice. But he isn't going to drag Pepper into this. One little white lie, right?]
Tony can rig something up. Something safe. We'll learn about it without endangering ourselves. [She gestures to the glowing Stark Tower to their left and nods.]

Tony finished modifying it last night. Well, early this morning. [She laughs. Teddy knows how Tony is.]
It's nice. The suits really are more comfortable when they fit you.

I have a lot to learn before I can join the rest of you.

I don't know. It could be anything.

[And with that, the reptilian-like wings unfold from his back and he grins at her.] We should go look.

[Especially with Teddy lacking the protection of a suit or anything.]

Alright. We won't.

[Teddy grins. Talking about Tony and his issues is much better than pretending they're all safe down here.]

Giving him a new rush project will get his attention without a problem.
