Hn, no, none that I've heard. I've only arrived recently, but have yet to hear an explanation for this war and the other occurrences that have taken place.

As for where it is, I don't know, but it's a city they call Mandalus.

Aside from the initial introduction, I have not heard from them since I arrived. Like you, I've had to rely on fellow residents for information. Bothersome, but unavoidable it seems.
