War Coverage...

Mar 21, 2003 19:27

I support our government...and I support my brothers and sisters who're over there in the middle east. However, I will not overload myself with coverage of the war. I know that the major networks are afraid that something will happen and CNN or FOX News will 'scoop' them...or that they're going to annoy people by having to break into prime-time programming...and because of those reasons, it's almost been 24/7 coverage of the war on the major networks. Because of that, I'm going to be watching syndacated re-runs and DVDs.

I just can't take too much coverage.

In other news...while I'm on-call tonight, we had a very nice day. Pretty much every one went out to breakfast this morning...and since we get in at 10, we were too late to have breakfast with them. However, we did have breakfast with Lynne (immediate boss) and Kevin (her boss) at McDonalds. That was nice. Lynne gave me her sausage pattie...because it's a Friday and that pointy hatted dude over in Italy says that it's wrong to have meat on Fridays...and since I don't listen to that guy anymore, it's all the meat I can eat on Fridays! WOOT! Heh... *ahem* Anyway...after that, we came back over here to the apartment and watched 'Bringing Out The Dead' on DVD. I can't believe with all the times that Larry and I have been over here in the middle of the day, he's never seen it. Of course, we pretty much laughed all the way through it...cause we can relate to it very much.

Only one patient today...but it was a doozy. We had a respitory therapist (RT) and nurse (RN) on board with us. The patient was just going over to the other hospital around here for an MRI since she was a ventilator dependant patient. We were supposed to leave the RT and RN there while we took another discharge, but since the patient was only going to be in there for about 20 minutes and it would have taken us about 40-60 minutes to get back to them, we weren't about to leave them. Not to mention that the patient has hair weave and wasn't able to undertake the MRI because of the possibility of metal in her right parietal lobe...when we got her back to our hospital, it turns out that all she had in her head was a freakin' bobby-pin...still, there's a risk of the metal in the head...so I don't think she's going to be getting that MRI. If she is, it's not going to happen tonight...maybe sometime tomorrow, and if that happens, I won't have to worry about it.

Something I do have to worry about though, is an in-service that we all have to have. Something to do with the new privacy laws and something called HIPPA. It's a real pain in the ass...and I'm not looking forward to having to deal with a 4 hour in-service. We're having two of them. One tomorrow from 8-noon, and then one on Tuesday from 6:30-10pm. I'm going to be going to the one on Tuesday night because I'm not about to lose a Saturday morning to work when I don't have to. The sister and future bro-in-law are going to be coming here tomorrow, and I'm going to need most of the day to get ready for them...not to mention that the girl is going to be coming as well. I don't mind not being able to clean up for her...but with the sister and bro-in-law...I've got to have a clean apartment. They're going to a comedy club at one of the AC casino's tomorrow night. I was supposed to get tix and we were going to join them, but the damn tix were all sold out when I called on MONDAY for SATURDAY! Now, our only hope is to be able to get tix around 5pm on Saturday. I may have to be there to get them in person at that time...so if that's the way its' going to be, then we're not going to be able to go with them. The only thing that we're going to wind up being able to do with them is go to dinner with them. They want me to figure out a place to go...but it's really tough around here. The girl is totally allergic to most shellfish..and since most of the restuarants around here are seafood restuarants, it's rather tough finding a place to go. Not to mention that I really didn't get that good of a paycheck today...so things are going to be a little tight for the weekend.

One of the best things that I can think about came in the mail recently. I would say that it came 'today' since I got it 'today' but since it takes me forever to check my mail sometimes, I don't know when it came. I got my National Registry of EMTs recert today. So that means that my certification is now good through 2005. One less thing to have to worry about for the next year and a half at the very least. Just one more small thing to have off my mind.

Now the last thing to have to worry about...being on-call...I'm going to have to worry about that till I wake up in the morning. Bleh.
