OMG. How could I have forgotten to mention this?! I heard about his passing a few hours ago. I knew that he was sick...but I didn't know that he was that sick.
Of course, I remember him. I think pretty much everyone around right now remembers him. Even if you were too old to have watched him, your kids watched him. There really wasn't anyone better than him. I heard from a few people today who 'met' him (we're really not all that far from Pittsburgh...) and of course they said that he was a grump in person. Well...that's debatable in my opnion. What says that you've got to be all sugary and kindness all the time...especially when that's your persona on TV?
I remember when Jim Henson died...I was still in HS then. And of course, I remember when Charles Shultz passed as well...however, Mister Rogers' passing doesn't seem to be affecting me as personally as those other two did. I wonder why that is? Maybe because it's been a very very long time since I had anything to do with Mr. Rogers? When Henson died, I was still young, and from time to time, I would then as I would now still watch something with the Muppets in it. Charles Shultz was and still is an every day part of my life when I read the comics section of the news paper. Yeah, I know that the Peanuts strips are all 're-runs' now...but I still read them.
Still...I'll be raising a glass to Fred Rogers over the weekend...maybe not what he would have thought appropriate...but it's something that I do.
So here's to you Fred. Thanks for everything you taught us.
