Number 36 in J.D. Robb's series is Calculated in Death. The Calculated refers to the first murder victim and the company she works for. Marta Dickenson was an auditor and while her death looks like a mugging gone bad, Dallas quickly concludes that she was not randomly chosen. With Roarke's help, using his expertise in the business world, Dallas and her team soon narrow down their suspects.

The Bomber, by Liza Marklund, features crime reporter Annika Bengtzon in the first book about her (books 2-4 are set in her past). She has recently been promoted to head of the crime department of her paper. Early one morning, shortly before Christmas, a huge explosion destroys the northern stand of the still-being-built Olympic stadium in Stockholm. It is revealed that someone died in the explosion - Christina Furhage, the head of the Olympic games. Annika's investigations reveal that Christina wasn't the wonderful person everyone claims she was. She finds links between her and a second bombing victim, who also dies at an Olympics site.

Death by Water is Kerry Greenwood's 15th Phryne Fisher mystery. Miss Fisher is asked to go on a cruise in order to investigate a series of jewellery thefts which have taken place recently. The descriptions of life on a 2 week cruise were interesting, especially the division between how servants and their employers had meals etc.

I've just finished Jo Nesbø's first Harry Hole novel, The Bat, but I have a feeling I may have read it before giving it to Ben's dad last year for his birthday. Anyway, it's set in Sydney, with Harry having been sent there to investigate the murder of a Norwegian girl. He works closely with Andrew Kensington, an Aboriginal police officer, who has a habit of imparting various facts about Sydney and Australia to Harry, in a way that suggests that the author did some research and wanted to use it all. It certainly isn't as well-written as the others, as it's slow in parts, with lots of Harry reflecting on his past.
