These bones begin to freeze
as the flesh is cut so deep
Exposed and trickling
ruby red
You wish you knew what it was like to feel
Cracked white porcelain
Smooth and fresh
And you lay there damaged in the road
Of potholes and construction cones
And you know
It may hurt like hell
But you feel it all just as well
As that squirrel you hit sixteen Saturdays ago
Try to tell the ambulance driver man
You left your heart back on the curb
The words almost roll off the tip of your tongue
When you realize you don't have one
Lay back
Accept the fact
That he packed it up with his brand new life
Pictureless frames
A new pack of condoms
And a fresh razor blade
Fresh blood
You see it trickle down your arm
ruby red
Smooth and fresh
Over those perfect bones
Just smile
Know that hell, it's alright
Maybe the doctor will be sexy
And God will be forgiving
And that man who walked out on you
Will show his face...
... Long enough to claim the insurance check
So you fight like hell to stay alive
In spite
Of this life
And fall in love with your own flesh and blood
Trickling into your heart
ruby red
With the worst intentions
