Here I am again, at work--like a chump.
My birthday is the 14th--that's 8 days. Nothing exciting planned, and I think this is the first year that I didn't feel it brewing on the horizon. Guess I'm officially getting old, huh?
Not much of anything is going right today. I did not want to get out of bed this morning and I was dragging my feet getting dressed. I sat in the floor and hugged Chloe a little longer than I should have. I laid on the couch and tossed Bella her stuffed raccoon a little longer than I should have. I sat on the closed toilet and let the blow dryer run on the back of my neck a little longer than I should have.
Then, I get here and it's problem after upset after screw up after problem. And I don't mean everyone else (for the first time in a while). No, this morning was personal. Like everything I did was wrnog; everything I touched turned to poop.
The highlight of my day right now is waiting to get home so we can make (and eat!) spaghetti. I wonder what the kids will want to play. Creepy Crawler machine is out of bug making goo. Easy Bake Oven is a great big project when coralling the two of them. I mean, it doesn't take six spoons to stir the single service cake batter...
Kenny mentioned Uno last night. Maybe we'll rock it old school and break out the Uno deck.
I need church. That's all -- I'm just saying, I need some church. Jean Mayes has a church but, you know me, ever-so-slightly terrified of making new friends and, you know, public places & what-not.
I also need book club. 2G1B hasn't met in several weeks as a result of the holidays, but tomorrow marks our triumphant return to the spotlight! This installment, we are reading "Lost and Found" by Carolyn Parkhurst (who also wrote our last book--"The Dogs of Babel"). I've almost finished--just another chapter or two to go--and it seems so odd that, this close to the end, it doesn't appear to be wrapping up. It doesn't appear that anythign is really....happening. But we've gotten to know the characters quite well; maybe the story is just going to end. Maybe it was all about revealing the characters and not the game show that they are on...
So...the company heads & department heads are in their regular old boss-man meeting. We're all pretty frightened here--there's rumors that I can't repeat about paycuts and lay-offs & the like. It's been going on for a year now (look, we all know the economy is bad) yet somehow I am not prepared for either option!
