I remember the Christmas 8-track (A-track?) tapes my mom would put on when we were little. Two of them were my favorite: John Denver and the muppets singing christmas songs, and the Alvin and the chipmunks Christmas album. The muppet one had some great hyper song about figgy pudding and the goose getting fat. But the Chipmunk tape had that "Christmas Don't Be Late." We had these big headphones that I'd put on to listen to the tape and I remember sitting there, listening to that song and looking at the empty stockings over the fireplace thinking "this is how I feel too," when they got to this part:
"We've been good but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast."
December seemed to last forEVER. And although I wasn't really a naughty kid except for when I climbed up on the counter to reach the candy cabinet, I did make a conscious effort to behave extra well in that month. Once a mall santa told me to clean my room if I wanted to get on the "nice" list. My mom says that she had never seen me work so hard when we got home from the mall.
Now Christmas is coming up so fast that I'm afraid I'm not enjoying it as much as I can before it's over. Time is flying by and the chocolates in my advent calendar are disappearing quickly. (well, partly because I eat some in advance, but you get the picture).
Tonight we'll decorate the tree, maybe watch some Christmas movies. I'm thinking of inventing a cocktail made of egg nog and mudslides. It will be called "mudnog," and I hope it won't be too gross. the thought reminds me of the cookie dough sports drink from SNL.
anyway, dave, if you're reading this, please can we please please go to disneyland this weekend? super please!! I cleaned my room last night!
