Tips for Parents
-Learn about technology-try to gain an understanding about the internet and how chat rooms work
-Learn the Jargon-learn the internet terms your children are using
-Set up rules for how long your child can be online and what sites are appropriate
-Look for chat rooms that have monitors
-Explain to your child about online predators and how they can stay away from them
-Tell them to never give out personal information like their name or address
-Place the computer in a part of the house where you can easily monitor what your child is doing
-Do not let your child talk one on one to someone they met in a chat room
-Make sure you explain that they are NEVER to meet anyone they met online in person
-Make sure your child’s school has adequate safeguards
-Don’t allow your child to send, receive, or post pictures online
-Do not let your child have an online profile, where they’re name will be in a directory, easily accessed by predators
