Where exactly has the summer gone? I was looking at the calendar today, attempting figure out my schedule for the next month and a half and it occurred to me that we're halfway into July. I don't like getting older, it seems like time passes so much faster. I don't even have a tan yet, that's just uncalled for, it's been gorgeous all summer...I may ( Read more... )

Wow! The cottage is looking fantastic! I can see why people would come up and comment. It's going to be beautiful when it's finished, for sure! :)

Thanks. It's still weird to see it, but I can't wait until it's done. The view really is great, probably my favorite part.

You have a beautiful view. Just wonderin' where abouts it is. We have a small cottage near Houghton Lake and it's very peaceful up there. Lately, we haven't been able to get up there as much as we'd like to.

It's in the thumb area, about 30 minutes north of Port Huron. Not too far from home, it's only about a 2 hour drive, an hour and a half if there isn't traffic.

I wish we had a place way up north. We have friends that have a cottage in Grayling but we usually only used that during the winter to go skiing.

But I love going up there, it's so peaceful, I mean the most exciting thing that will happen all year is John Corbett coming to perform at the little coffee shop in the town south of us. He came last year and my mom and her friend went, lol.

The Port Huron area is absolutely lovely! We have friends in Grayling, too! Currently, they are on a caravan trip to Alaska and Canada and having an absolute blast! It takes us roughly about 3 hours to get to our place, when we go. Well worth the drive, though, once we get there! :)

Now, just about an hour west of me is Chelsea and they have the Purple Rose theatre which is owned by Jeff Daniels. I've been there to see plays, but Jeff wasn't there at the time. Maybe Michigan does have a few nice spots, afterall!

I met Jeff Daniels when I was younger, I went to school with his niece and his brother-in-law was my youth soccer coach, small world, lol.

And I love it up north, really, I know people think I'm crazy when I say I'd probably choose going up north to the Traverse City area (or anywhere way up north) or my cottage over pretty much any other vacation. But I just love it.

Here is the old cottage that used to be there:

Such a pretty girl! :) The old cottages are so pretty, but your new one is outstanding! And Labor Day really isn't all that far away.

I used to love spending all holidays up north, too! We used to make an annual trek to Mackinac Island! OMG! I adore the island and the ferry ride over! I think #1 son will be doing that next weekend! I guess tradition must be handed down - or something like that! There just isn't anything quite as pretty as the North land! :)

I'll miss the old cottage because it was so perfect, the stereotypical summer cottage. But there was no hot water, no shower (yes we showered in the hose outside, lol) but it had a lot of memories so it's sad. But I'll love those hot showers when we're up there early in the season in May when it still dips down into the 30's at night.

I haven't been to Mackinac in quite a while. My mom and a few of my aunts started to do an annual girls weekend, but with small children it's been hard to schedule it lately. I really want to make my way up into the UP in the near future, I've been to Tacquaminin (sp?) Falls once but we didn't spend enough time up there for my liking and I was a bratty teenager at the time, so of course I didn't appreciate it at all. But I've been reading a bunch of Steve Hamilton novels and they all take place up in the UP in Paradise, MI...so now I want to go there and see it all, lol.
