Melbourne Trip Day 2

Woke up nice and early on day 2, and after getting dressed, having a wrestle with Gaige (my Dad's dog, who  I need to get a few pics of), Jyan and I set out to have breakfast at an old haunt of mine, Holy Cannoli.  Both Lara and Bev were in they're usual form, and were really pleased to see me and meet Jyan.  Both commented on how much weight I've ( Read more... )

Both my parents are from unusual backgrounds themselves, and they made decisions on our upbringing that seem very politically correct now, but were very enlightened at the time. I was born in '68, and my parents definitely believe(d) in a better tomorrow, and that the revolution is personal.
I was born on a beach in sydney, and my ealry years next to a national park. So, from the beginning it was easy for my parents to enforce a few strictures. Like,
- no television (I wasn't allowed to watch it ever, until i was a teen and old enough to critically think)
- no christmas, easter, or any religious or commercial celebrations etc. we celebrated birthdays though! My parents insisted we be religious free until we could choose our own (I choose to be a buddhist, my siblings are athiests)
- no racism or sexism. not ever ever tolerated.

I am enjoying celebrating things with darren, because I love him. :)
I totally respect and love my parents, and I personally believe they did the right thing, for me. I am finding it a little uncomfortable doing christmas with darrens family, but only in that I don't want to fail to react appropriately. Seriously, I am a bit dim on how to seem enthralled over a present from santa. lol.
Darren has been wonderful, although a little sneaky.....he has been quite reluctant to get presents from me, and has been sneaking about buying them for me. Lol. He is a beautiful generous man, and i can learn to live with such sneakiness. :)

Babe,

I'm more than happy to celebrate things like Christams, Easter, and Valantine's Day with you, but I'm also just as happy to let them slip quietly by. My only interest is to make you happy, and that's the first and only thing on my mind.

As for the sneakiness, that's all part of Christmas. The day is about giving, and to be honest with you, I'd much rather be giving gifts on the day than recieving them.
