Just got back from a few days visit in Melbourne with Jyan. We headed out on Wednesday night by train. To be honest with you, the train ride was a bit uncomfortable, and neither of us got much sleep at all. Still, we pulled into Southern Cross Station at about 8ish Thursday morning, grabbed some breakfast at a nearby cafe, and then caught the tram to my Dad's place where we were staying.
Dad met us at the tramstop and drove us to his place. After a brief chit chat where I introduced Jyan, we hit the sack and slept for a few hours. Once we woke up, we showered, took my dad and his partner June out for dinner, and then came back home to meet most of my brothers and sisters who also wanted to meet Jyan. The night went well, and when once everyone had left, Jyan and I hit the sack again and slept really well.
Friday we borrowed Dad's old Commodor and spent a bit of time in the city, and then went to Piercing Urge where I bought Jyan some fantastic new septum jewlery. My favourite is the horns, which look damned hot on him (hot enough that I want them too). After that I took Jyan to visit Rickett's Point, probably my favourite beach in Melbourne. After a nice walk along the shore and wading in the cool water, we returned to the tea house and enjoyed some calamari and chips, and a great chat. Our tummies full, we bundled back into the car and drove along the coast to my sister's house where we had intended on spending Friday night.
Arriving at Christine's, I was surprised to see that my nephew was there. I haven't seen Michael for years, and it was good to have a brief chat with him. He has changed a lot, and his hard life was showing. Once Michael had left, my sister, her husband, Jyan and I had a great chat, along with the twins, Kristin and Melissa. Everybody got along really well with Jyan, and made him very welcome. Christine cooked dinner (lasagna of course) and we supplied desert (pavalova, cheese cake and chocolate cake). Dinner over, we found out that Christine had no mattresses for us, so we returned to Dad's place to sleep.
Saturday saw us getting up early and hopping in the car to head to the city again, BUT the car had a flat battery. Dad jump started her, but both Jyan and I new that we wouldn't be hearing the last from that lazy battery. We parked in an all day carpark, and did some shopping in the city. We had organized to meet a few friends for lunch in Fitzroy, but when we got back to the car, the battery was completely flat again. A small amount of swearing ensued from me, and then we hopped on a tram with one of our mates to meet the other in Fitzroy.
Lunch was great, and chatting with Mike and Chris was a nice break from our busy holiday. With our bellies full, Chris offered to drive us to a few places considering our car battery was dead (which was greatly appreciated). Visits to Hares & Hyeanas, Dungeon Warehouse, and Eagle Leather followed. I bought Jyan a few more gifts (a t-shirt with some of my art on it and a few Logan comics) while Jyan bought me an interesting weight. Time was moving on, so Chris dropped us off in the city to try and find a battery for the car.
It only took us an hour to locate a cheap battery and I installed the bugger (not hard at all, but I think Mike took a few pics of me doing it), and we where off to return the car to Dad. Once we did that, we packed our stuff in Dad's other car, and he returned us to the city so we could catch our train back to Sydney, but not before we had a really nice dinner at an Asian dumpling place on Swanston Street.
The trip back on the train was better this time around, and both Jyan and I even managed to get some sleep in. We got back to Sydney at about 7 in the morning, and then caught a cab back home.
Our trip was a great break, and it went really well. Jyan met a lot of my family, which was no doubt a bit stressful for him. Still, we survived well enough. The trip did teach me one thing - one thing that I thought I would never say. Melbourne isn't my home anymore, and I'm not sad about that at all. My new home is here in Sydney, and getting back here was great. I loved my life in Melbourne, but my life here in Sydeny is a fantastic adventure shared with the man who I intend on spending the rest of my life with.
