Spade's going to eventually have to make his peace with Kay, he knows - his own food won't last indefinitely. But in the meantime, he's poking around the library, the kitchen, and sundry places around the mansion to see if he can gather any clues tending toward the plot hole's disappearance and the possibility of it's return.

This may or may not be motivated by boredom, running low on bourbon, or a desire to help. Or any combination thereof.
