Spade had gone over his notes a dozen ways, hundreds of times, and he still could't make anything out of them. By all means, have a Jaenelle, who is gliding along the path and happens to look sideways at him. He seems well enough, so she gives him a smile.

He raises his eyebrows, but inclines his head, smoke rising around his already mildly Satanic features. His voice, however, is relatively mild as he says "Nice afternoon," in a non-committal sort of way.

She looks around. "I suppose so. Not too extraordinary, though." She glances at the smoke and frowns a little. "Cigarettes?"

She shakes her head. "Can't stand them. Daemon used to smoke them, but he doesn't around me." She laughs, suddenly. "You look a little discomfited. Any particular reason?"

"I was a private eye. Private detective," he clarifies, since he's finally gotten used to most people not knowing his slang. "I solved crimes, found missing persons, that sort of thing."

She tilts her head. "It seems as though you would have a lot to solve here." She doesn't know of anything equivalent, but she understands the concept.

"Lack of mysteries ain't the problem." He takes a drag on his cigarette. "There was no magic at home. And even the cases I do solve, there's nothing to do with the criminals here."

"Kill them? It seems," she says slowly, "That there are many things you could do with a criminal here."

"They won't stay dead if you kill them, and you'd need guards to keep 'em locked up. Someone suggested cursing 'em once, but we'd still need some sort of judge to decide what crime merited what curse, and someone to cast 'em."
