Sam was poking around the Mansion, kind of idly. He was half looking for Gabrielle, for a painting lesson. He was half looking for someone with a problem he can fix, or someone new to talk to

"Looking for something?" Livia asked, coming across him in his poking-around.

[mancalledspade]

"Hey, sweetheart. Nothing in particular. What've you been up to?"

[revmother_livia]

"Nothing in particular," she echoed with a shrug. "Things have been surprisingly dull in the madhouse."

[mancalledspade]

"You're tellin' me. It's almost passing for normal, these days." He sounds less enthusiastic about this than he might, though if she didn't know him as well, she might mistake it for simple detachment.

"Boring, isn't it?" she commented with some amused sympathy.

[mancalledspade]

"As hell." He snorts. "I told Juliet I'd keep an eye out for Romeo, the other day."

[revmother_livia]

"Don't tell me his eye's been wandering," she said with an archied brow. "I'll lose all my faith in love."

[mancalledspade]

He snorts. "If O'Leary and Mosca are any indication, he'll turn up when he's good and ready, and not before."

[revmother_livia]

"Most like," she said, nodding slightly. "Doesn't leave much room for a detective."

[mancalledspade]

"Nah. Still need to find that new hobby."

[revmother_livia]

"Best get on that. How long have you been here now? Six months? Seven?"

As if Livia's done a great deal in all that time, though the inactive life didn't bother her that much.

[mancalledspade]

"Seven. Yeah. But the first couple were pretty lively, between the toast and the murders."

[revmother_livia]

"It wasn't all toast and murders."

[mancalledspade]

"Nah, that's true." He pulled out a cigarette, and said quietly, "Noticed the gate fell down."

Livia pressed her lips together and nodded shortly.

"And after all that worrying about it."

[mancalledspade]

He raised an eyebrow. "You okay with it, kid?"
